Gillene Butterfield has been a member of the Chorus of Opera North since 2006 and is originally from Swindon, Wiltshire. She studied at Trinity College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Her roles for Opera North include: Despina in Così fan tutte, Zorah in Ruddigore, Masha in The Queen of Spades, Second Woman in Dido and Aeneas and Rosaura the Puppet in The Adventures of Pinocchio. She has performed with Opera Holland Park, Opera Minima, Much Loved Productions, British Youth Opera and the National Youth Music Theatre. She was part of the chorus for 'Grimes On The Beach' at the Aldeburgh Festival and has also sung at the Salzburg Festival, Bregenz Festival, Buckingham Palace, the Linbury Studio and at the Handel House Museum.
Gillene returns to the role of Julie Jordan, which she played in Opera North’s 2012 production of Carousel in Leeds, on tour and at the Barbican in London.
